Posture

Unfortunately for many of us, bad posture seems a way of life that we're willing to live with.  Sadly enough, we are also living with headaches, upper back pain, shoulder pain, and promoting kyphosis (A rounding of the shoulders and a permanent curvature of the upper spine.)

Fortunately there is something we can do about it.  Throughout our day we may find ourselves slumped over to work, read, or relax.  This rounding-of-the-shoulders puts our back muscles in a lengthened and stretched out position.  This posture facilitates weakness and pain in those muscles.  After long-term rounding-of-the-shoulders from a slumped posture, your muscles actually stay n this lengthened position.  To avoid this or reverse the current problem, always be aware of your posture and readjust throughout the day if you notice you're slumping.  Proper posture is attained by keeping your chin slightly tucked back, your shoulders down and pulled back even with your ears.  This may be hard to maintain for those of us who have had bad postural habits, but i assure you the strengthened muscles and proper posture will be well worth the effort.

Yours in health,

Karen
