Because I Can!!!
Saturday, October 03 2009

It's hard to believe October has already arrived.  It seems only last week we were making our way into 2009.  It's been a perfect season for getting out for a bike ride, a walk or a run around town.  How easy it is to take the ability to do so for granted!  But, that attitude can quickly change to one of gratitude if you bring to mind a friend or family member who is not able to join you in those activities because of a disease, illness or injury that has limited their mobility.  On Saturday morning, October 17th, all of the physical therapists, physical therapist assistants and physical therapy support personnel of our community (Alliance Physical Therapy, Integrative Physical Therapy and The Rehab and Wellness Center) will come together to recognize National Physical Therapy Month by sponsoring the second annual BECAUSE I CAN! 5K run/walk.  We invite and urge each of you to set aside a little more than an hour to participate in honor of a friend or family member who can no longer run, walk or move with ease.  Proceeds from the event will be gifted to the Foundation for Physical Therapy to support new and ongoing research aimed at improving the effectiveness of rehabilitation for individuals of all ages, from newborns to the elderly, facing neuromusculoskeletal conditions.  As professionals who are confronted daily by the challenges these people face, we are urging you to take a stand with, and for, your friend or family member!  And never take your ability to move for granted.  Keep moving . . .or get moving!   As the event t-shirts proclaim, "I WALK . . . I RUN . . . I MOVE . . . BECAUSE I CAN!!!"

Yours in health,

Karen
